What a great Summer Season 2019/20 it’s been!
We cannot thank you, our many and varied guests enough, for your fabulous support over the past four months.
We have been hiking at least 3 times a week for months now, spending many hours on the Uitkyk Trail in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve and also watching the sunset on the Fan Aloe Trail on the Topiary Wine farm with a few lovely walks on the Snake Alley Trail at the Berg River Dam. Hiking so much is a blessing and makes one ‘mountain fit” in no time, a perk of the job for sure.
Our Mountain Bike Wine Tours have been well supported and we have been able to take guests to our 3 favourite farms to showcase the best of Franschhoek vino on many occasions, both on the full 4 hour tours as well as a number of our new Sundowner afternoon tours.
The village has been walked for many kilometres during the very popular Historical Walking Tour and many guests have got to know the town intimately with insider knowledge. As we always say, local knowledge is key when exploring a new village. Equally, our brand new Adventure Bus has proved to be a winner. This in-depth 2 hour drive to the four corners of the valley is a fantastic way to orientate yourself with where everything is and what is on offer when you arrive in the village for the first time. Hot tip from our guests… Do it on DAY ONE! It will enhance the rest of your trip significantly.
Our cultural tours were also a great seller with many guests visiting the local township of Langrug and enjoying the company of the little ones at the Inam Creche after visiting the local spaza shop, the Godfather’s internet/chicken cafe and learning about the history of the area. One guest from the British Isles even went so far as to make a fabulous donation to the Inam Creche to cover their monthly expenses for a full month. What a wonderful gesture for which Cynthia and I are very grateful. It is heartening to know our guests are such compassionate and generous folk.
The Rond-en-Bont cultural tour was so much fun, especially our group of ladies who had a ball drumming with the locals in Langrug and being serenaded by the Sinotando Choir, after their visit to Judah at the Medicinal garden. They went on to a delicious lunch with Aunty Ruth at the Teesakkie in Groendal and a culturally-enriching experience with Chief Chris and his Headmen at the Khoisan Kraal in Wemmershoek. This tour is not to be missed. There is nothing like it available in the area and will give you a refreshing insight into the culture of the local inhabitants of our area, who are eager to share this with you.
We were fortunate enough to have a few bird-watchers book birding tours with us, my personal favourite and we got to see the African Fish Eagle with their juvenile on the nest still in early February which was a surprise. We have also spotted the Ground Woodpeckers and the Cape Rockjumpers on the Uitkyk Trail a few times this year already which was extra special. On one of our Snake Alley hikes, we spotted the Verreaux’s Eagle that frequents the area soaring high above us. Franschhoek may not be a birding mecca but it does produce some absolute gems.
The season is starting to wind down but we do still have about 6 to 8 weeks of great weather so please do visit us and take advantage of milder weather coming up. My personal favourite time of the year is autumn when the heat subsides somewhat and before the cold weather sets in. The grape harvest is currently in full swing and will soon be over and we shall start to see the leaves changing colour, a sure sign that we are on the way into winter. But before we get there… lets’s get out and about and enjoy the last few weeks of brilliant sunshine!
On our website you will notice there is a link to our VOUCHERS page. This is where you get the chance to spread the love with friends and family by purchasing a voucher for them to enjoy a tour at a time convenient for them! A great idea for birthday, anniversary or Mothers day / Fathers day gifts.
We are attending the World Travel Market Africa at the CTICC from the 6th to 8th of April this year and we would like to invite you to visit us at our stand (number S26) if you are attending. It is our first large exhibition and we are super excited to meet lots and lots of visitors from all over the world. Please pop in and say Hi!
Lastly, we have just published our Winter Warmer Specials at greatly reduced prices. They are valid from 1st of April all the way till 31st of August 2020! Take advantage of these special rates and enjoy a tour of your choice.
See you in the great outdoors!
Robyn
