In our Franschhoek Township “Meet the locals” Walk, you will have an authentic township experience, while enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes of real African life.

Our local Coloured town of Groendal incorporating the informal settlements of Mooiwater and Langrug, is full of history and diverse cultures. This is a guided tour taking you into the informal settlement to meet the locals, experience daily life and sample the local refreshments.  Visit a shabeen, visit a mom in her home and have a fun time at one of the local creches where the little ones delight in having visitors.  Prepare for lots of hugs!  End the tour at Batho’s Place, a local restaurant for a lunch (or sampling) of traditional African food and drinks.

The crèche little ones just love visitors!

Enjoying the welcome drink, the local village sorghum beer

Your local guide is from the area and knows the settlement intimately.  You’ll even get to learn a few local phrases to take home with you.  If you’re a culture vulture, this one’s for you.

We meet at your guesthouse or hotel and go to the township from there.  If you do not have your own transport, we can arrange that for you with a local operator (additional costs apply).

From 2 to 3 hours.
